Editor & vault settings
The Editor & Vault category is where you set your vault's folder locations, keep its index healthy, and tune how the editing surface behaves. These are the day-to-day knobs for your workspace.
Vault path
The vault path is the folder Altretta reads and writes — your notes are plain Markdown files inside it, and they're yours. To switch which folder you're working in, or to keep several, see Vaults & workspace.
Rebuild the project graph
Altretta builds a search index and a semantic graph from your notes. If something looks wrong — a note missing from search, a graph with holes, related notes that stop turning up — Rebuild graph is the repair.

Run the rebuild
Altretta re-reads every file in the vault — notes and code — and regenerates the whole graph.
Verify
The missing note reappears in search, and the graph and backlinks reflect your latest content.
This is a full re-read of the vault, not a quick index refresh, so on a large vault it takes a while. Reach for it when the graph is genuinely incomplete — for example after a new language became supported, or when search and related-notes stop finding things — rather than as a first reflex. It never deletes your notes.
Folder locations
Point Altretta at the folders you want it to use for specific kinds of content:

Keeping these deliberate — rather than dumping everything at the vault root — is what keeps a growing vault navigable.
Editing behavior
Turn on the hover editor to edit a linked note in a popover, without leaving the note you're in — hover a link, pop it open, make your edit, and carry on. Great for quick fixes to a backlinked note mid-thought.
Configure periodic notes — recurring notes on a cadence (daily, and beyond) — so a fresh dated note is always one command away. Pairs with your daily-notes folder above.
Tune the recent files list so you can jump straight back to what you were just working on — how many to remember and how they're surfaced.
Toggle the word-count display to keep a live count of the current note in view — handy when you're writing to a length.
