Licensing & activation
Altretta's core — writing, linking, the graph, local search, connecting your own AI over MCP, and one synced folder — is free, and works entirely offline with no account. Paid tiers lift the one-folder sync limit and unlock the collaborative and hosted capabilities.

Every member of a team vault consumes a seat, whatever their role — Readers included. Size a Team plan by the number of people on the roster, not by the number who will write.
Note version history is capped at 50 versions per note on every plan. What Free limits is the window you can browse — the last 7 days, plus the newest version — not how many are retained. See Time-travel.
If Altretta can't reach your account, it keeps honouring a cached licence for a 14-day offline grace period. After that it falls back to Free capabilities until it can check again. Your notes, editor, graph and search never depend on a licence at all.
Activate a license
Buy or start a trial
Choose a plan from the Altretta page or the in-app upgrade screen. You'll get a license tied to your Apilium account.
Activate in the app
Open Account → Plan and sign in, or use the one-click activation link from your purchase — it opens Altretta via an altretta://license deep link and activates automatically.
Confirm your tier
Once activated, the account menu shows your current tier and the features it unlocks. Activation is remembered across restarts.
Signing in
You can sign in to your Apilium account with email or a social sign-in provider. An account is only needed for paid features (hosted publish, the team brain, more than one synced folder) — everything local keeps working signed-out, and so does your one Free synced folder, because it runs through your own cloud rather than ours.
Managing your plan
- Upgrade or change plans from Account → Plan in the app, or from your customer portal.
- Activations — a license allows a set number of device activations; deactivate a device you no longer use to free a slot.
- Enterprise SSO — organizations can enable single sign-on by domain so team members sign in with their corporate identity.
