The 3D star-map
The star-map is a 3D view of your vault rendered like a galaxy — each note a star, each link a thread of light — so you can explore your knowledge as a constellation instead of a list. It isn't a separate mode: it is Altretta's graph view, the one navigable 3D space you fly through at any scale.
The star-map is an Altretta differentiator — neither Obsidian nor Logseq offers anything like it. It's a genuinely different way to feel the scale and shape of what you know.
What you see
Your vault appears as a starfield: notes are star sprites scattered through 3D space, with bloom and nebula effects giving dense clusters a glowing, galactic look. Well-connected areas form bright constellations; the edges between notes trace the links you've written. Move through the scene to explore your knowledge from any angle.
Why a 3D map
A flat graph flattens everything to one plane. In three dimensions, structure that was tangled becomes legible — you can see which regions of your thinking are dense, which are sparse, and how far apart two ideas really sit. It's exploration as much as analysis: pan and zoom until a cluster catches your eye, then dive in.
The star-map is also the visual you'll recognize from Altretta's homepage — the same rendering that powers the web hero runs live over your own vault.
When to reach for it
- To get an intuitive, big-picture feel for a large vault at a glance.
- To rediscover a corner of your knowledge you haven't visited in a while.
- To present or explore your second brain in a way that's genuinely striking.
For focused, per-note work — seeing exactly what connects to the note in front of you — the local graph scale and backlinks are the everyday tools. The star-map is for taking in the whole sky.
