Install Altretta
Altretta is a native desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It runs entirely on your machine — your notes never leave your computer unless you choose to publish or sync them.
Download
Get the latest installer from the Altretta product page. Every build is code-signed.
Download the .dmg (a single universal build for Apple Silicon and Intel). Open it and drag Altretta into your Applications folder, then launch it from Launchpad or Spotlight.
Download the -setup.exe installer and run it. Windows may show a SmartScreen prompt the first time — the installer is signed by Apilium Technologies OÜ; choose More info → Run anyway if prompted.
Download the .AppImage, mark it executable (chmod +x Altretta_*.AppImage), and run it. .deb and .rpm packages are also provided for Debian/Ubuntu and Fedora-based distributions.
System requirements
- A 64-bit operating system (macOS 12+, Windows 10/11, or a modern Linux desktop).
- ~500 MB of free disk space for the app; your vault uses only as much as your notes.
- No account and no internet connection are required to use Altretta locally. An Apilium account is only needed for paid features like hosted publishing and the team brain.
Keeping Altretta up to date
Altretta checks for updates automatically and offers them in an in-app update dialog. When a new version is available you'll see release notes describing what changed; installing takes a few seconds and your vault is untouched.
You can also re-download the latest installer from the product page at any time — installing over an existing version preserves your settings and vaults.
Next step
With Altretta installed, open your first vault → First run & your first vault.
