Import your notes
Because Altretta works directly with Markdown files, moving in is usually effortless — and because your notes stay as files, moving out is always possible too. No lock-in, in either direction.
From Obsidian or any Markdown folder
An Obsidian vault is a folder of Markdown, so there's nothing to convert:
Open the folder as a vault
Point Altretta at your existing Obsidian (or Logseq, or plain Markdown) folder. Your notes, wikilinks, tags, and attachments are read in place.
Keep working
Wikilinks, embeds, backlinks, tags, and frontmatter all carry over. Altretta indexes everything and starts building the graph and signed history from your existing notes.
Altretta reads your files where they live and never rewrites them on import. If you later rename or move notes inside Altretta, links are updated for you.
From Notion and Confluence
For sources that don't live as Markdown on disk, Altretta ships first-party connectors that pull your content in as clean Markdown:
- Notion — connect your workspace and import pages as Markdown, preserving hierarchy, images, and stable IDs. Imports are incremental, so re-running the connector only pulls what changed.
- Confluence — the same pull-based import for Confluence spaces and pages.
Both connectors store their credentials in your operating system's keyring and respect rate limits. Open the Connectors panel to set one up.
The Notion and Confluence connectors are a Pro capability. Reading a folder of Markdown, and every other import below, works on any plan.
From other formats
Altretta also imports from the other places knowledge tends to pile up, converting each into clean Markdown notes in your vault:
- CSV — turn rows into notes, mapping columns to properties so a spreadsheet becomes a structured, queryable set of notes.
- HTML — import web pages and HTML exports, cleaned up into readable Markdown.
Whatever the source, everything lands as plain .md files you own, indexed into the same graph and signed history as the rest of your vault.
The connectors are pull-only by design: they bring content into your vault. Your Altretta notes are never written back to Notion or Confluence, so your local vault stays the source of truth.
Exporting out
Your vault is already plain files, so "export" is rarely needed — but Altretta also offers an explicit export for sharing a subset of notes as a self-contained bundle. And any time you want to leave, your Markdown is right there in your folder.
