Keyboard shortcuts

Altretta ships eight default key bindings and keeps the rest of its commands in the command palette. A further set of commands can be given a key of your own in Settings → Shortcuts, but they arrive unbound.

Bindings are written the same way on every platform — the modifier shown as Mod is ⌘ (Command) on macOS and Ctrl on Windows and Linux. Altretta renders the right symbol for your machine; nothing else about the bindings is platform-specific.

The eight defaults

Note the two P bindings, which are easy to confuse: Mod + P is the quick switcher (jump to a note by name), and Mod + Shift + P is the command palette (run a command by name).

Commands you can bind yourself

Everything below ships unbound — deliberately, so it never collides with the editor's own built-in editing keys. Assign whichever you use in Settings → Shortcuts.

Toggle task, toggle blockquote, toggle embed, toggle list, toggle verified, copy line up, copy line down, move line up, move line down, insert line above, insert line below, clear line.

That is the complete rebindable set. Most of Altretta's commands — new note, search, reading mode, daily note, graph, canvas, export, and everything else — are not rebindable and have no default key. Run them from the command palette, which is why Mod + Shift + P is the one binding worth learning first.

Rebinding

Open Settings → Shortcuts

You'll see the rebindable commands as a flat list, each with its current binding, or — if it has none.

Record a combination

Press Record and then the combination you want. Esc cancels.

Resolve any conflict

If the combination is already used by another command, both are highlighted and Altretta warns you. You can reset one binding, or reset them all to the defaults.

Platform notes

On macOS, Mod is ⌘ (Command); on Windows and Linux it is Ctrl. The bindings themselves are the same.
Rebindings are stored per install, and are shared by every vault on that machine. If you use Altretta on more than one computer, set your preferred keys on each.
